I have now worked in the optical industry for ten years. In this short period, purchasing habits and inventory management have already changed a lot. A few years ago, most professionals made their purchases twice a year and were always having overstock.
Now, purchasing managers select only the frames needed for immediate sale and no longer keep any surplus. Therefore, they meet with their representatives more frequently and must juggle with the conditions imposed by the suppliers, which differ from company to company. For example, some suppliers ask to buy three new models to trade in an old one. This situation makes the job of inventory management difficult.
At Afterbang, we have adopted a different mentality. We work in collaboration with professional offices. We are already grateful when offices are making space for us in their display. That's why we are working on inventory management with them. We establish a quantity to keep in stock with our customers, and then when we fill the display, the office can make the exchanges it wishes. All that matters is to have an established quantity together.
